I joined the Futures Design team as a design technologist intern. The Futures team, indicated by its name, aims to incorporate new technologies into Intuit’s products in the near future. The design team is comprised of designers and researchers. Every one of us, including myself, works on our own projects in search of potential applications of the technologies and how customers will interface with them.
The first project I worked on was about exploring the opportunities to implement GPT-3 and future language models. I was most interested in the rephrasing and summarization capabilities. I conducted experiments on if the language model can help Intuit customers better understand the related financial concepts. I ran A/B testing on over 200 participants to evaluate my concept.
The second project I worked on was a “blue sky” project. I drew insights from existing user research results about Intuit’s current personal finance products. I realized many users can not articulate their financial goals clearly. I spotted the opportunity of guiding users to clarify their goals so that Intuit can provide more effective solutions. I used a storyboard, screen flows, and a prototype made with React to craft a user story.
The entire internship is such an inspirational experience. I can’t thank my mentor and everyone who guided me enough. I got my first taste of designing with cutting-edge technologies and fell in love with it. There’s something to learn from every mistake and success during my time at Intuit.
